Part 1 ~ 🕊️ Spiritual Mask — When the Enemy Wears Scripture🕊️
One of the most painful realities of narcissistic abuse is when the abuser hides behind religion. They quote verses, pray loudly, and claim to be “doing God’s will” — but behind that mask is a heart filled with pride, manipulation, and deceit.
The enemy doesn’t always show up as darkness. Sometimes, he disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). That’s why discerning truth from appearance is critical for your healing.
Main Message:
A narcissist often weaponizes God’s Word to maintain control. They twist scripture to justify their behavior, gaslight their partner into silence, or use guilt as a leash. For example, they may say, “The Bible says you must submit,” but ignore the part where husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the Church — with humility and sacrifice (Ephesians 5:25).
But here’s the truth:
God is not a God of manipulation, fear, or control.
He is a God of freedom, love, and truth.
When someone uses the name of God to abuse, they are not representing Him — they are misusing His name for their own power. This is spiritual deception.
Encouragement:
If you’ve been spiritually abused or manipulated, remember: God saw every tear you cried in confusion. He knows the pain of being betrayed by someone claiming to represent Him — Jesus Himself was betrayed with a kiss.
And yet, God’s truth always exposes falsehood. When He begins to open your eyes, it’s not rebellion — it’s revelation.
Scriptures to Anchor In:
Reflection Question:
Have I confused manipulation with “faithfulness”? What fruit do I see from this person’s behavior — control or Christlikeness?
Prayer:
Lord, remove every spiritual mask from my life.
Expose what is false and reveal what is true.
Heal the places where Your Word was used to harm me, and teach me to hear Your voice again — the voice of love, not fear.
In Jesus’ name,
